Hello, Reactors 👋

How have you been? It’s been like forever in this pandemic situation we’re in. The new normal has kicked in. People are trying to live the best of their lives — some are fortunate enough to keep their jobs while others are unfortunately really struggling in these trying times. It’s just sad, right? No one saw this coming but we just have to keep moving forward and try as much as we can to survive. While not everyone has the capacity to do something in the situation we’re in, we at React Cebu are still thankful that we’re still able to somehow live by and continue doing something for the benefit of the community. It may not be helping people directly financially but we’re still able to promote learning and collaboration which has been our very reason why our community existed in the first place. With that, in these past two months — July and August, we’re fortunate enough to resume our events and bring them online. I guess aside from most people becoming online sellers, most of our pals in the community have become online streamers, be it playing games, creating tut videos, and many more. The transition from doing physical events to bringing them online has come with its own set of challenges but we’re happy that we‘re able to overcome the difficulties we have through helping each other out.

So, just to give you an update, here are the two events we had. We meet and hang out at Google Meet. An invitation link is sent to those who register for the event. Our events are posted on our Facebook Page: React Cebu and on the event date and time, we go LIVE on our Facebook page. It then serves as our recording for that session.

Intro to Testing with React — July 31

Photo-op sesh v1!

Learn testing with React! Understand what it is and other types of it, how to do it, and more importantly why we do it.💪

Testing gives confidence in written code. In the context of this webinar, ‘testing’ means ‘automated testing’. We’re also going to show how React developers can quickly start testing their app with the React Testing Library (RTL) with Jest.

In-depth Testing with React — Aug 28

Photo-op sesh v2!

Join us once again for In-Depth Testing with React, this coming August 28th 8PM onwards for another night of learning and fun with your fellow Reactors and DevC Circle members!

This event is a follow-up on Intro to Testing with React. In this webinar, we’ll dive deep into testing using React Testing Library (RTL) and Jest and show how it’s done in many different scenarios which include mocking HTTP requests, working with different states such as Redux/Context API, working with react-router, hooks, forms, accessibility and many more.

Unfortunately, our online session had problems with the audio but if you still want to watch it, it’s here: https://www.facebook.com/reactcebu/videos/826524277880102/

And of course, last but not the least, we’d like to thank our partner Facebook Developer Circle: Cebu City for the support in bringing this event to more people in our community.

That’s it! See you soon once again Reactors on our next events to come. Keep reacting! 💪

We post our events online on our Facebook Page: React Cebu and we sent out emails via our Newsletter. To subscribe just go to our website: react.jscebu.org and fill out the form. 😊
